I’ve seen trees with stunted growth and leaves that look burned or insect damaged really recover once we focus on soil biology. When we apply bokashi and use worm tea as a foliar, the trees bounce back, the masorcas grow larger, and the quality of the cacao improves. It’s convinced me that it really does begin in the soil.

Me too. But we keep getting told this story about genetics being the bees knees. It’s not. A starving Usain Bolt isn’t going to win a gold medal. Nor will he win with a broken leg. We need to solve that stuff first in cocoa and a lot of other crops too.

Love it: Soil to Soul ethos. It rolls of the tongue. Will be looking for the posts.

Very interesting and useful endeavor Ruth. And also a difficult one. For example, would acidity in the soil produce acidity in the bean? or have an opposite effect ? Fascinating work. I am looking forward to hear about your process and result. Congrat!

At this stage we just don’t know. It will be a few years of data collecting before we can start making links. You will definitely be a part of it!
